You want as much of your costume to consist of black but if you want to add color just throw in some subtle hints of darker colors. If you are going for a punk look stick with blues and purples. If you are going for a medieval look then consider a more striking color such as red. Add eye shadow, nail polish and lipstick in these colors to add pizzazz.


Makeup is one of the most important parts of a gothic style costume and will complete your look. To paint your face think of big dark eyes and very dark lips. Make bold lines when applying eye liner and paint your lips black or a very bright red. Depending on your theme you can also add some artwork to your face for a more artistic look. If you are going to be wearing a costume in a different color than black (such as white, red or gray) then add a more intense look to your makeup. Looking for that perfect costume for your kids this year? This is my list for the top ten Halloween costumes. This is only a prediction since we will not actually know the stats until after Halloween. These are based on what I believe will be the most sought after costumes of this year. There is just so much to choose from that you can’t go wrong with any of these selections.

1) Spiderman: For the last several years Spiderman has been the top ranking costume among children. I do not think the stats will change this year since so many kids still love to play dress up with this costume even when its not Halloween.

2) Hannah Montana: All the girls want to be Hannah Montana. I predict this will be the top Halloween costume among young girls. Like Spiderman the Hannah Montana costume can be used all year long since girls LOVE to play dress up.

3) Joker: Last year this was the top selling Halloween costume among kids and even adults. Although it has dropped a few spots this year I predict that it will still rank high on our top ten Halloween costumes list.

4) Transformers: With the new Transformers movie release in June you can count on these being on the list for this year. These are new costumes that were just released and it was well worth the wait. At this time though there is only two different costumes to choose from. These are Bumblebee or Optimus Prime.

5) Indiana Jones: Last year Indiana Jones was on the top ten Halloween costumes list and I believe it will stay there this year also. My son among many others will be dressing up as little Indiana Jones.

6) Captain Jack Sparrow: The Pirates of the Caribbean movie has been out for some time now but that has not kept kids from still enjoying dressing up as Jack Sparrow. Like many other costumes this one will not just be used on Halloween. Kids will be able to enjoy dressing up all year long even after the candy is all gone.

9) Alien: For some reason I think an alien will be a big hit this year among costumes. There are some great new costumes out there this year and the alien ones are very creepy and realistic. I saw these and just had to add them to my list.

10) Pixie or Princess Costume: Every girl wants to be a princess. Many girls will choose this costume every year until they are in their teens. Just like the witch costumes these can be made unique with personal touches. There are so many different princess costumes to choose from that the possibilities are endless
